Bianchi sets eyes CANA Zone Three championships

The 2019 Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) most outstanding girl Maria Bianchi is focused on leaving a mark at next month's CANA Zone three gala in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, from November 17-23.

Bianchi who who steered Kenyan swimmers to the overall title during last month's East Africa secondary school games in Arusha, said she's ready for the Tanzanian championships.

"The swimming gala in Arusha was competitive but I produced a stellar performance as it acted as part of my preparations for the Tanzanian meet," she said.

The Mombasa-based swimmer, who competes for Blue Ocean Club, won seven gold medals in last year's CANA Zone Three event in Uganda.

Meanwhile, Saint Christopher's School Nanyuki and Bandari Swimming Club shone during the Mt Kenya Bloc and Coast swimming championships that ended on Sunday in Thika and Mombasa respectively.

During the Mt Kenya Bloc gala at the Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika, St Christopher's bagged 121 medals for the title. Nexten Multi-sports Academy finished second with 23 points. Loreto Convent Msongari were third slot with 13 points.

In the boys' category, St Christopher's bagged 73 medals as Nextten and Mpesa Foundation Academy collected 14 and 13 medals for the second and third positions respectively.

In girls' division, St Christopher's were unstoppable after they collected 48 medals for the title.

The winners will prepare for the national swimming championships to be held in Mombasa next month.

At the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, Bandari bagged 242 medals to win the Coast short course and relays championships. Coached by Fakry Mansoor, Bandari swimmers dominated most of the races.
