Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has pledged to continue supporting golf and other sports across the country.

This is meant to help tap talent and help sportsmen realise their full potential in the disciplines they are pursuing.

“Sports is really about the community, and it is one of the best ways to connect with our customers.

“We have supported sports in many ways,” KBL Managing Director John Musunga said while speaking on the sidelines at Karen County Club, the host venue for both Kenya Open and the ongoing Savannah Classic.

KBL was this year’s presenting sponsor for the Magical Kenya Open to a tune of Sh43 million.

Also, the company is the official alcoholic beverage sponsor for the Kenya Savannah Classic.

They have also pledged to reward local golfers who make the cut in the two European events with Sh100,000 each.

They are also sponsoring hole in one at the championship, promising to reward a local player who will attain the feat with a gift hamper worth Sh20,000, and have also catered for accommodation of all local pros in the tournaments.

“We have a long history of supporting sports in the country to promote Kenya as a sporting and tourist destination,” Musunga said.

He said KBL will continue to support the Kenyan Premier League leaders, Tusker FC, and its players throughout the Covid-19 period as a way of mitigating the effects of the pandemic.

“We are a lead sponsor in rugby today and we support Tusker FC,” he noted.

“It’s been a very tough time for the country and everyone, and one of the things we did as a company was to ensure that all our sportsmen and team members are taken care of throughout this period.

“The team and players maintained their benefits and allowances throughout the period,” Musunga said.

On rugby, Musunga expressed the company’s commitment to continue supporting rugby teams and events in the country, aiming to leverage Kenya’s good standing on the sport globally to connect with its consumers.

“Looking at our Sevens team, we have a fantastic opportunity for the business and our brands to connect with the fans through the team.

“While we are still evaluating and assessing what we will do, we confirm that we will be in rugby in a big way post-Covid,” he said.

He further noted that integrity and credibility were some of the values that his company looks at when deciding to enter into a partnership.

“We want to have someone who is credible and has a high level of integrity and who can connect with our consumers.”
