22-year old wins Sh1 million Guinness grand prize, trip to Cairo

Guinness has awarded the first Sh1 million winner in the ongoing ‘Win a Trip to Cairo’ national consumer promotion.

Evans Mutai, an M-pesa owner in Kericho was awarded at a colourful event in Nairobi.

“It was sheer luck after a long day at work. I headed to my favorite club and purchased a 500ML bottle of Guinness. Luckily, I was aware of the promotion after seeing the campaigns advertisements on television, so I went ahead and sent the number under the crown to 29759.

“After a few weeks, I received a call from Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) informing me that I’m the first grand prize winner of Sh1 million plus the trip to Cairo with two of my friends,” Said Evans.

The 22 year old winner who was accompanied by his mother and sister was ecstatic about the win.

“I have big plans for the money I have won. I huge chunk of it will be directed towards paying for my education fees and the rest will be used to expand my M-pesa and also venture into the spare parts business in Kericho,” he said.

“I will also reward my mother and sister with the trip to Cairo to express my gratitude on the support they have been giving me all this years,” he added.

Speaking during the handover event, Kenya Breweries Limited Marketing Manager - Guinness, Ms. Nduku Wamakau said; “Guinness seeks to always engage with our loyal consumers and reward them fully as they celebrate their passion for football together with their friends.”

Three grand prize winners are yet to be awarded in the promotion. The promotion, launched on 8th April 2019 will be running for 12 weeks till 30th June 2019.

Over 87,000 Kenyan consumers will be rewarded with over Sh40 million worth of cash and prizes during the period of the campaign.

Consumers can take part in the promotion by purchasing a 500ML bottle of Guinness and sending the code under the crown to 29759. They can also participate by purchasing Guinness six-pack cans and scratching the panel to reveal a code which they will send to 29759.
