English referee confesses on his decision-making that assisted Leicester City to win the Epl in 2016

Former English Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has opened up to talk about his controversial decision-making that formed a destruction path to Tottenham Hotspurs and handed Leicester City the English Premier league title in 2016.

Clattenburg who is now the head of referees in Saudi Arabia was in charge of Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspurs game, which was widely considered to be a decider between first-placed Leicester City and second-placed Tottenham respectively, in clinching the league title.

Despite struggling the whole season, Chelsea fought back from 2-0 to draw level with their London rivals. This extinguished the hopes Mauricio Pochetino and his men in clinching the title.

However, the ugly side of the match was more prominent than its importance. Seven Tottenham players were booked for either making nasty tackles or engaging in physical fights.

Clattenburg opened up to say that he had the option of sending three Spurs players but he chose to keep them, so that they could lose the title without excuses.In his interview at the NBC Men in Blazer Podcast, Clattenburg justified his decisions.

"Some referees would have played by the book; Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and probably lost and they would've been looking for an excuse.  But I didn't give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title,” Said Clattenburg.

The English Football Association later on cracked the whip on Tottenham players with heftier punishments. Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele was slapped with 6 match ban and fines. Chelsea and Tottenham were also hit with fines for failing to control their players during the match.
