Sofapaka lead way in signings

Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka have been the most active club in the transfer market in a show of serious intentions to win the league this season.

Coach Sam Ssimbwa has added Ugandan pair Umar Kasumba and Feni Ali to his squad alongside two other local players.

Kasumba was initially at SC Villa for two years. His contract had run out at the Ugandan club. Feni, on the other hand, was at Uganda Revenue Authority.

Ssimbwa said the two Ugandans are ‘fantastic’ signings for his side and that he believed they would make a difference in the league.

“I have known them for a while and can say they are fantastic players. They are very good players and will help us to achieve our dreams,” he said.

The Ugandan also confirmed that the club had signed Morven Otinya from Palos and Wesley Onguso from Western Stima.

“I have not seen much of Otinya and so we are testing him to see his abilities. Coming from the lower league, we need a little more time to know his real potential.

“As for Onguso, he looks a bit rusty, perhaps due to lack of match fitness. Overall, they look good and hopefully together with the rest, they will give us what we desire,” said the Ugandan tactician.

Ssimbwa described the team’s performance so far as ‘average’ and said he believed they could still fight for the title.

“My own assessment is that we have had an average performance. They are still four matches remaining to end the first leg and we will try to get as many points as possible.

“Having said that we still remain title contenders and not mere participants. We have done very well compared to last season, where at this point we had just 13 points.

“Now we have 21, just seven points shy of the leaders, so we can do it,” he said.

Impressive Posta Rangers have closed their transfer activity with just two signings, according to club chairman John Tonui.

The club, placed fourth in the standings, has brought on board Kennedy ‘Agogo’ Otieno from Western Stima on a three-year contract and Rwandese striker John Karegezi.

The Rwandese striker has been warming the bench at Rangers for the past six months as the club delayed getting him a work permit.

Meanwhile Muhoroni Youth have appointed Gilbert Selebwa as the new coach.
