AC Milan reportedly considering Louis van Gaal as their next manager

Axed Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been linked with an instant return to management with Italian giants AC Milan.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim the 64-year-old, who was sacked by United last month, is being considered as the permanent replacement for Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was himself sacked in April.

Van Gaal has managed in Holland, Spain, Germany and England during his career, but has never taken charge of an Italian team.

The Dutchman previously hinted he would retire from management when his time at United came to an end but the challenge of managing in Italy could persuade him to reconsider.

It is claimed Andre Villas-Boas and Ronald de Boer are also being considered for the vacant San Siro hot seat.

Van Gaal delivered United's first major trophy of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era when he guided the club to FA Cup success at Wembley in May.

However, a drab style of football combined with a fifth-placed Premier League finish led to United's top brass axing him and installing Jose Mourinho as his replacement.

But he will be missed for his cracking press conference outbursts - which you can re-live in the video above.
