Mourinho wants Petr Cech to stay despite interest from Arsenal and Utd

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will try to tempt Petr Cech to stay at Stamford Bridge next season.

Czech goalkeeper has played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois this season, but Mourinho insists he was a vital part of their title success.

He played seven games for the Blues, and Mourinho believes they were pivotal to his side regaining the Premier League crown.

“He’s a legend of this club but he’s a legend at 32 years old which is a very young legend for a goalkeeper," he told reporters after Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Sunderland on Sunday.

"One of our strengths this season was to have the two best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

“I don’t know if we could be champions if he hadn’t played these seven matches. His contribution was decisive.”

Cech looks likely to leave the Bridge in the search of regular first-team football, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain all linked to his services.

However, Mourinho still hasn't given up hope of retaining him, to stay alongside Courtois.

He added: “The reality is that Petr played lots of matches in every competition so we made him feel important. I can cope with it, for me it’s no problem to have both but obviously I don’t know what Petr is thinking."
