Manchester United transfers: United preparing £100m Angel Di Maria deal

Manchester United are reportedly willing to spend up to £100million to land Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is said to have told chief executive Ed Woodward to do all he can to bring winger Di Maria to the club in the wake of United's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford in Saturday's season opener.

The Dutchman is thought to be desperate to bolster his squad with some world-class players before the closure of the summer transfer window at the end of August - and has made the 26-year-old Argentina international his number one target, according to the Daily Mail.

The paper understands that were Di Maria to agree to join United, he would be paid in the region of £200,000-a-week.

Over the course of a five-year contract, coupled with a £50 million transfer fee, would take the club's investment in the player to £100 million.

Van Gaal is also said to want to sign a central defender and a holding midfield player to try to revive the club's ailing fortunes.
