Kenya Lioness knocked out hosts Rwanda 79-52 on Friday night to set up a final berth against defending champions Egypt in the 2021 Women’s Fiba AfroBasket Zone Five qualifiers.

Melissa Akinyi scored 21 points as US based duo of Victoria Reynolds and Felmas Koranga finished with 16 and 12 points respectively for Kenya who avenged their game one loss to Rwanda.

Mercy Wanyama added nine points with captain Rose Ouma and Brenda Wasuda averaging seven and six points respectively in the four quarters.

Captain Monay Henderson led Rwanda with 22 points followed by Bella Murekatete with 12 points in the loss.

Rwanda had edged out Kenya 77-45 in the opening match of the tournament.

The Lioness will now face rivals Egypt in the finals today (Saturday) in what is expected to be a thrilling final after a tight group match was witnessed on Wednesday between the two sides.

Kenya surrendered a 27-point lead to lose by a basket (107-106) against Egypt in their last group game.

On the other hand, favourites Egypt crushed South Sudan 99-65 in the first semi-final to maintain their unbeaten run with their fourth romp of the tournament.

Raneem El Gedawy led Egypt in the semis with 16 points.

The sole ticket to the AfroBasket finals will be secured in Saturday’s final between Kenya and Egypt.

The continental showpiece will be held in September in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
