In preparations to beat Nigeria’s Green Locusts in next month’s World English-Language Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC), Scrabble Kenya (SK) held a three-day camp over the weekend.
The team that consists of Allan Oyende, Gitonga Nderitu from Kiambu, Willy Mwangi from Nakuru, Patrick Litunya and Manase Otieno was pitted against the five reserves over 32 games.
Second seed Gitonga, edged Oyende on spread (1370 to 1316) after they both tied on 21 wins to win the Mashujaa Day National Tournament as seed four, Nakuru’s Mwangi was third on 18 +684 with Homabay’s Onani Magwanga (The first national Champion) emerging fourth and best among the reserves.
Seed five Nicholas Mbugua was in Zambia, he joined team Zambia camp and won the Zambia national open with a 13 +1212 record ahead of their top seed Isaac Mwape (12 +481) while Mwila Ngosa (11 +915) closed the podium category.
