Oduory, Njuguna among players to participate in Martial Arts contest

Some of the participants takes part in Tong Il Moo-Do and Kick Boxing in past championships

Tong IL Moo-Do reigning Eighth Peace King champion Evans Oduory is among the world beaters who will take part in the second edition of Best of the Best Martial Arts championship slated for Brookhouse School in Nairobi today.

Oduory will battle it out with other worthy opponents including world silver medalist Peter Njuguna whose current form is quite intimidating.

Flawless Oduory won gold at the Eighth Peace King Cup in Korea in February last year before bagging a similar medal during Mombasa Open in August.

Likewise, Njuguna won silver at the world championship held in Korea in September and a similar medal in the Mombasa Open.

Since the Best of the Best Martial Arts championship is a competition that brings together several martial arts genre under one roof but not against each other, a high profile showpiece is expected in all the genres including Kick boxing and Tae Kwon-Do.

In Kick Boxing, the man to watch will be John Kibe who is out to defend the gold medal he won during the inaugural Best of The Best Championship in 2015.

"We are in the process of bringing on board Karate and Judo in the contest,“ noted tournament founder Hillary Wahanda who is also the Tong IL Moo-Do Secretary General.

Wahanda told FeverPitch that today‘s tournament has attracted over 200 participants from Nairobi and its environs.

"Some of the clubs that have registered their players for the tournament are Best Kickers Martial Arts, Acacia Crest Academy, KK Security, Nzoia Sugar Company and Quest Martial Arts among others,“ said Wahanda.

Wahanda has told the participants to expect a high level game owing to the calibre of players that the contest has attracted.

“We have a goal which is to showcase and promote Martial Arts as a sport. We will use the occasion as an avenue for talent search and also to encourage inter martial arts cohesion.”
