The Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) has reported an influx of cats in Nairobi. The society says this has posed a challenge on feeding the cats, which have been brought to their shelters. To worsen the situation, there has been an increase in cat food prices in the market. At the same time, the animal society is encouraging city residents to adopt the pets in June, the official ‘adopt a cat’ month.
“We encourage you to remember our feline friends when considering a new pet,” the society posted on the online platforms.

KSPCA said since a lot of cats tend to reproduce in the month of June, it is not a surprise that most of them often end up in animal shelters. Apart from the appeal for passionate cat lovers to chip in to buy food for the growing number of cats, the society said at the moment they have beautiful cats looking for homes. Last month, two men dumped cats along Lang’ata Road befoe escaping. The two were captured by cameras outside  the KSPCA offices on May 12. According to a report by the Society, the culprits dumped seven cats sealed in cartons at around 6.50am. The official said, such random inhumane acts often expose the animals to unnecessary suffering.
