Safari Sevens: Shujaa to launch title defense against South Africa All Stars

All eyes will be on defending champions Shujaa as the 2023 Safari Sevens kicks off Saturday at the RFUEA Ground in Nairobi.

Kenya and 2021 losing finalists Germany are the top seeds for this year’s event where Shujaa headline Group A which also features Red Wailers, Uganda, South Africa All Stars and Tropic 7s.

Germany on the other hand are in Group B alongside Morans, Samurai, KCB, and Western Province Select.

The Lionesses headline the women’s competition which features Uganda, TUKS Sevens, Cubs and Tropic Sevens.

Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi co-captain the Shujaa side which has regular players like Herman Humwa, John Okoth, Samuel Asati among others.

Shujaa will kick off their title defense against South Africa All Stars from 11.46am.

Elvis Olukusi and Chrisant Ojwang’ co-captain the Morans. Gabriel Ayimba, whose father the late Benjamin Ayimba, played and coached Shujaa to victory at this tournament over a decade ago, and Richard Omedo are also in the team.

Sheila Chajira and Maureen Muritu lead the Lionesses in the women’s competition while Diana Omosso, Freshia Awino are some of the key players in the Cubs.

Uganda will kick off the tournament against Tropic 7s from 8.30am before Kenya Lionesses play TUKS 7s from 8.52 am.
