Koyonzo Secondary School are the 2023 Kakamega County Secondary Schools rugby sevens champions.
Koyonzo retained the title after hammering St Peter’s Mumias 21-10 in the finals.
Speaking after their victory, Koyonzo head coach Elly Okwemba congratulated the boys as he promised more action in the regionals.
“We are champions again. Kuddos to the boys for showing character. Despite qualifying for the regionals with two games to spare, the boys never backed down as our goal was to win the championship which will go along way to motivate us ahead of the next stage,” said Okwemba.
Koyonzo knocked out Mukumu 14-7 in the semifinals as St Peters completed a double over Kakamega High School 7-5.
Kakamega High School would finish third overall after a 7-5 win over Mukumu in the third-place playoffs.
The national sevens champions win the county games unbeaten.
The Western regional champions saw off Mukhonje 57-0 before thrashing Malava 83-0. They completed their pool match with a 35-5 win over Chebuyusi.
In the quarterfinals, they knocked out Chebuyusi 35-5.
St Peter’s Mumias star Luke Cheptile was voted the Most Valuable Player.
