Former champions Mang'u High have qualified for the rugby 15s semifinals of the Central Region Secondary Schools Term One games as the curtain came down on preliminary matches at Mpesa Academy in Thika yesterday.

Mang'u shot down Alliance High School 17-0 to book their semifinal ticket.

A converted try, a penalty-try and a penalty conversion was all Mang'u required to conquer Alliance who also qualified for the last four.

Allen Murimi touched down for Franklin Wekesa to convert before converted a try after an earlier infringement by an opponent. Such tackles later earned them a penalty try.

"We are determined not to leave any stone unturned as we aim to restore our lost glory," Mang'u head coach Dennis Munene told Standard Sports.

Mang'u will play Magumo as Alliance face Pioneer Secondary who topped the other group with nine points ahead of Magumo (six), Jobii Boys (three) and Njambini Secondary (zero).

In the boys' basketball, Thika High snatched a 44-37 win over Mang'u to cruise to the semifinals in a closely contested tie played at Mpesa Academy.

Thika High will now take on Murang'a High, who emerged runners up in matches played at Murang'a Teachers Training College.

Murang'a garnered six points behind winners Pioneer Secondary who collected nine returned home without a point in the round robin matches.

In the girls' basketball, four teams will battle out in the semifinals next weekend.

They are Mpesa Academy, Loreto Girls-Limuru, Karima Girls and Magumano.

Mpesa Academy squeezed a 44-42 win over Loreto Girls-Limuru. Karima and Magumano were the first two top teams in the competition held at Murang'a TTC.

Mpesa Academy will face Magumano as Karima Girls take on Loreto Girls.

In boys' handball, Gichau Boys and Graceland tied on six points to make it to the last four in the round robin matches against Kigumo Bendera and Mirira who also tied on one point.
