Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be hoping to move further away from the relegation zone when they travel to play struggling Top Fry Nakuru in a round nine Kenya Cup match to be played at Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon in Nakuru.

MMUST are eighth in the standings with 14 points, four points off the drop zone and assistant coach John Asila is keen on guiding the students to safety.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Asila said they have had a two weeks rest and they have worked out all their mistakes and they are ready to grind on against Nakuru.

“The boys were tired and a little bit fatigued with the multitasking of going to class and playing since the year started vigorously especially academically.”

“However, that has changed in the past two weeks with the short break we had last weekend. We have trained well and I believe if we build from our last games’ victory we will topple Nakuru and move steps away from the danger of relegation,” said Asila.

MMUST defeated Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 7-0 in an ill-tempered clash two weeks ago at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega to end the poor run that had seen them lose five matches.

Former champions Topfry Nakuru looked dead and buried just a month ago but back to back victories over Impala and Nondescripts have lifted them out of the relegation, barely.

This is a match that the 2013 and 2014 Kenya Cup champions must win as they seek to maintain their league status.

The students from Masinde Muliro are capable of pulling off an upset and will be looking to do exactly that when they step on to the Nakuru Athletic Club turf on Saturday afternoon.
