Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Board has appointed a new Secretary-General to replace Odour Gangla who was elected as chairman last week.

The Board appointed Ian Mugambi to the vacant position on Friday.

The chairman noted that Mugambi’s appointment was effected according to the KRU Constitution.

The Constitution authorises the Board to fill in a casual vacant position of an officer of the Union.

Gangla said: “The Board wishes to congratulate Mugambi on his new appointment and wishes him well. We trust all the stakeholders will accord him and the other new sub-committees chairman the support they require to successfully execute their functions.”

Gangla announced that Mugambi will also head the Discipline and By Laws docket as well as deputise KRU treasurer Joshua Aroni in the Finance and Administration committee.

Gangla took over the Ngong road-based office amid a deep crisis hurting the Kenya Sevens team.

The 2016 HSBC World Rugby Seven Series in Singapore champs are now on the brink of being relegated from the competition.

Gangla is also a former chairman for the Kenya Cup side Impala Saracens.

The 7s team has now been boosted by the return of six senior players ahead of the seventh leg of the World Sevens Series slated for Hong Kong next weekend.

Former Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde headlines the list of returnees and he is joined by Jeffrey Oluoch, Nelson Oyoo, Eden Agero, Augustine Lugonzo as well as Kabras Sugar forward Daniel Sikuta.
