Kenya Sevens assistant captain Collins Injera has been nominated for the World Rugby greatest moments challenge for breaking the all-time try scoring record at the 2016 London Sevens.

He eclipsed Santiago Gomez Cora’s record of 230 tries.

The Mwamba RFC speedster is among the 10 greatest moments nominated by the World Rugby on their social media platforms, from which the best will be voted for by the fans.

And to ensure Injera emerges victorious, many Kenyans,  including politicians like CORD principal Kalonzo Musyoka, have taken to social media to vote for the winger.

“Dear Kenyans, I call upon you all to vote for our very own @cinjera for World rugby’s #TheGreatestMoment I just did!,” read a tweet from Kalonzo Musyoka (@skmusyoka).

Yesterday, under hash tags #VoteForCollinsInjera and #TheGreatestMoment, Injera commanded an impressive lead of 9,462 votes followed by Japan - for their historic win over South Africa at Rugby World Cup 2015 — with 2,144 votes.

Injera is up against the likes of, Tony Stanger’s Grand Slam winning try in 1990, the late Jonah Lomu’s performance against England at Rugby World Cup 1995, Japan’s historic win against South Africa at Rugby World Cup 2015 and Joel Stransky’s drop goal in Rugby World Cup 1995 final.

Others are, The Black Ferns’ fourth consecutive Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2010, Jonny Willkinson’s Rugby World Cup winning drop goal in 2003, France’s wonder try against New Zealand in 1994, All Blacks lifting their third Rugby World Cup title in 2015 and The Barbarians’ famous try v New Zealand in 1973.

According to the World Rugby, the games’ greatest moments will be showcased in a permanent home for the first time later this year when the World Rugby Hall of Fame opens its doors to the public.

The museum based in Rugby, the birthplace of the sport, will feature some of the sport’s defining moments which are helped being selected by fans across the globe.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Simbas have two places up on the latest world rankings released by World Rugby, yesterday.

With 1.35 rating points awarded to Kenya, the Simbas moved up two to 24th spot following last weekend’s 61-15 emphatic victory over Zimbabwe in the Rugby Africa 1A match.
