Warriors revenge

The English Counties will today get a taste of what it feels to play on Kenya Soil when they take on the Elgon Warriors for the second leg of their tour.

The English team demolished Elgon Warriors, which is has players from both Ugandan and Kenyan National team.

The combined team lost 39-5 in Kyadondo, Kampala last weekend and should they fail to click as was the case in Kampala, then English Counties will be eager to inflict the same damage here in Nairobi at the RFUEA Grounds.

Elgon Warriors head coach Ham Onsando has something different in mind and is dreading losing twice to the same side, especially today plying on home soil.

According to Onsando, what they lacked in Uganda was the platform to work with. That has since been fixed at the training sessions he has had with the side, now his charges have a chance of claiming the Englishmen scalp.

“We need to get our set pieces working and from there we can play very well,” said Onsando. “Last weekend we conceded too many mistakes and we got punished for that,” he went on to explain. If we get our set pieces right we will have enough possession and that will also help minimize on the number of mistakes we commit.”

Onsando will keep faith with the same squad that took part last weekend, though he has been forced to make a few changes so as to deal with threatening injuries the team players picked up in Kampala in their first encounter.

“We have made a few changes to the squad, necessitated by injuries to Robert Seguya, Dennis Muhanji and Mike Wokorach. They are replaced by Wilson Kopondo, Tony Mutai and Ronnie Mwenesi,” he said.

The Elgon Warriors’ pack will have to be solid in the defence if they are to cut out their opponent’s attacks or match the Englishmen, who have shown a high level of skill in the game. This marks them as outright favourites to win the match despite playing an away fixture.

Onsando believes his team won’t make any drastic change in their game plan in order to win. On contrary they will just have to execute what they have been practicing to perfection.
