John Waluke, Didmus Barasa win MP races

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has been re-elected after getting 26,861 votes in the August 9 parliamentary election.

Barasa's closest challenger Brian Khaemba of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) got 9,497 votes.

Across the constituency borders, but still in Bungoma County, John Waluke of Jubilee Party won re-election after getting 16,461 votes.

His closest rival, Kasembeli Wasiuma of Ford-Kenya, got 8,811 votes. Moses Nandalwe of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) came third with 3,521 votes, while Levi Simiyu of DAP-K got 401 votes.

Both Didmus Barasa and John Waluke are in trouble with the law.

Barasa is being sought by police on allegations of fatally shooting his rival Brian Khaemba's aide, Brian Olunga, on Election Day.

Waluke, on the other hand, is out of jail because of an appeal against his Sh297 million conviction.

Waluke was jailed for tens of years in June 2020 after the High Court found him guilty of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) out of Sh297 million through maize importation scandal.

He is out of jail after he filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in September 2020.
