Nominated Senator Kasanga replaces Sakaja in Senate Covid-19 committee

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has been replaced by Nominated Senator Sylvia Kasanga as the chair of the Senate Ad hoc committee on Covid-19 situation in the country.

Kasanga who has previously served in the committee in a vice chair capacity will now take charge of the functions mandated to the committee in response to the pandemic.

On July 20, Sakaja resigned as the Chairperson of Senate Ad hoc Committee and apologised for breaching Covid-19 containment rules and was arrested on a Friday night.

The senator said he had decided to take responsibility and urged Kenyans to follow the government's directives on curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“I take full responsibility for having flouted Covid-19 rules on Friday. I was outside my home after 9 pm and that is against the [Covid-19 containment] rules. It is regrettable but all of us make mistakes,” he told reporters

On Tuesday, Majority Whip of the house Irungu Kangata , approved Bomet Senator Christopher Langat to replace Sakaja in the committee as a member.
