Coast-based rally drivers will battle for top honours during Saturday's fourth round of the Mombasa Motosport Club training rally championships.

Paras Pandya of Synergy Gases, who is one of the event organisers, said the championships consists of six rounds where the first two rounds are sponsored by the Mombasa Cement while Synergy Gases will sponsor the third round.

He said the fourth round is set for Saturday at the Mombasa Cement farm in Vipingo, Kilifi County and has been sponsored by Lota Motorsport.

"The event will be held at Mombasa Cement Vipingo featuring two stages in the afternoon session, followed by three stages at night," Pandya said.
Paras said the objective of the club is to run fulfilled events while also keeping the competitor expense at a bare minimum.

"We started off this year with seven entrants, but the last rally attracted 11 drivers, which is no mean feat if you consider the current economic downturn," said Pandya.

The club has been holding its training at Mombasa Cement farm as a way of encouraging more drivers from the coastal region to try their lack in motorsports.

The essence, according to club officials, is to keep the running costs down while also enjoying the competitive facet of the sport in a fun environment.
"Rallying is a great sport as it teaches driving skills. We are happy to have Mombasa Cement as our partners for providing a venue to compete on," added Pandya.
"We are planning to bring in some of the old drivers who have not competed for years and hope to have at least 15 entries by the end of the year," he said.
