16-year old-Walt Alobo amassed a total of 100 points in the 60cc cadet category to win the ninth round of the G-Karting Championships at Rift Valley Motorsports Club yesterday.

Alobo won the first three heats to clinch 25 points and in the finals he amassed unassailable 75 points to beat arch rivals Ethan Gitonga and Magana Luusa who finished second and third at 65 and 57 points respectively.

Alobo also won the 60cc cadet comer category of the tenth round of the championships ahead of Wendell Mutegi and Ethan Gitonga.

In his third competition, Alobo won the 60cc cadet of the tenth round of the championships ahead of Wendell Mutegi and Ethan Gitonga before he (Alobo) was given standing ovation at the prize giving ceremony.

“It has been tough to win all these (three) prizes but I must thank my parents for their contribution towards motivating me to win them,” Alobo told Standard Sports in a ceremony presided over by the Clerk of the Course Harry Mwangi.

“It was all about teamwork with the total support from my parents,” he added.

Alobo hinted at graduating to the senior category of the championships next season.

However, Magana Luusa was voted the best driver of the ninth round of the championships while Wendel Mutegi the best driver of the tenth round of the championships.

“It is my parents who inspired me to love motorsports to become one of the best drivers today (yesterday). I hope to work hard to become one of the prominent future rally drivers,” said Luusa.

On his part, Mutegi said briefly “I want to thank everybody who came to see me win.”

Shane Chandaria won the 60cc Iame category at 100 points beating his brother Aarav to the second position in the ninth round of the championships.

He (Shane) was on the mark again with ease in the same race of the tenth round of the championships.

”I’m happy to have emerged victorious and hoped to repeat the same feat next season,” Shane said.

In the Rotax Category of the ninth round of the Championships, Kris Banderi beat a field of four stiff competitors to emerge the winner after reaping the maximum 100 points.

He was followed by Gibran Bank and Maynuel Inondi in the second and third position ahead of Myles Imbayi who all secured 88, 79 and 48 points respectively.

Banderi also won the tenth round of the Rotax Championships after winning all the three hits ahead of bank and Imbayi.
