Macharia stays calm as he bags victory in Thika

Handicap 22 Boniface Macharia outclassed 179 golfers to win Thika Sports Club's Chairman (Edward Nyamu) centenary prize over the weekend.

A descent round total of 42 stableford points was enough to steer Macharia to victory as the club celebrates its 100 years of existence. The two-day meet was presented by Ruiru-based Dashui Water Drillers Limited, who specialise in geological surveys, borehole drilling, pump installations and borehole solar powering.

Macharia, who has been exhibiting some good form lately, had a great outing on the tough-playing course posting 21 stableford points on his front nine before he topped it up with 20 stableford points from his back nine.

Handicap 3 David Matano, who had 32 gross, lifted the Gross prize. SN Njenga, playing off handicap 13, won Men winner prize on a score 40 (17+23) stableford points followed by Joe Thiga, playing off handicap 18. He had a score of 37 (18+19) stableford points.

The fairest lady on the fairways was Winnie Mugo, who inked 39 stableford points to lift Lady winner prize, while playing off handicap 16, E Mochache took the Lady winner prize second on a score of 33 stableford points.

In the sponsors' category, handicap 17 Simon Mbote was the best of them all with a score of 33 stableford points, trailed by Geoffrey Ngigi, who was playing off handicap 41 and with a score of 31 (16+17) stableford points.

Friends of Chairman prize winner was Ben Mugambi, playing off handicap 8. He returned a score of 37 (20+17) stableford points. Handicap 11, Isaack Charagu was second on a score of 35 (18+17) stableford points.

In Level Handicap category, Wanjau Gathuri, playing off handicap 16, triumphed with 36 (19+17) stableford points. Jeff Karue was second on a score of 35 (17+18) stableford points.

Best guest golfer was William Kamau, playing off handicap 26, on a score of 34 (21+13) stableford points.

Handicap 37 Margret Magothe, on a score of 39 (17+22) stableford points, lifted the Supplementary prize.
