Champions Kaya Tiwi Girls remain a team to beat in Kwale

Dreaded National Girls' basketball champions Kaya Tiwi guarded their supremacy after running riot to score huge victories as Kwale County Term One games entered day two yesterday.

Without underestimating their opponents, Kaya Tiwi tightened their grip to qualify for the semi-finals after hammering Mwalukombe 103-0 to remain in pole position to lift the title.

In the second match, Kaya Tiwi's rings were not touched by their opponents Taru Girls who went down 97-0.

In other matches, Kingwede beat Mazeras girls 42-32 and went ahead to silence Rose Makwere School 40-10. Vigurungani cruised to the semifinals after beating Ngozi Girls and Mivumoni 28-10 and 29-9 respectively.

Waa Girls also made it to the semis after beating Rose Makwere, Mazeras Girls and Kingwede 48-0, 29-8 and 34-17 respectively.

In the boys' category, Kaya Tiwi beat Kinango 82-19 before humiliating Taru Boys 51-16 to advance to the semifinals.

Former champions Shimba Hills were hammered 27-15 by Kwale High in a low scoring match as Mazeras Boys whitewashed Mivumoni 48-12 in another match. Taru Boys beat Perani 39-30 in a closely battled match as Vigurungani floored Lungalunga 45-15.

In Kilifi County games held at Sokoke Boys High School, girls handball champions Dungicha started off well after beating St Johns Kaloleni 23-3 and went further to humiliate FB Thuva School 30-7 to sail to the semis.

St Johns recovered to beat FB Thuva 10-8 in a tight encounter.

In boys' handball, Tsangatsini beat FB Thuva 23-9 before edging out Dzitsoni 23-5.

Bofu defeated Jaribuni and Godoma 12-9 and 12-8 respectively. Marereni hit KP Senior 11-10 in a closely contested match.

In boys' basketball, Voowald School upset giants Ribe Boys, 19-18 but went ahead to lose 44-29 at the hands of KP Senior school. Ribe Boys found the going tougher after they lost 28-26 to KP Senior School.

In girls' basketball, St Johns hit KP Senior 29-0 but lost 25-12 to Ngala Girls. Ngala also beat Mbuyuni 17-1. Mitangani defeated Marereni 52-0 as Chanagande stopped Jaribuni 38-23.

In Taita Taveta games, national boys basketball kings Dr Aggrey School were in a class of their own as they demolished Bishop Njenga School 132-2. Dr Aggrey were due to play St Mary's Boys in the semis last evening while Timbila were to face Voi Secondary School.
