National hockey girls champions Nyamira Girls made their intent of winning the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) hockey title known clearly after seeing off Tigoi Girls High School 2-0 on Saturday.

Laureen Auma and Jecinter Opondo struck for the Siaya County heavyweights who joined Kakunguku Memorial Girls from Uganda and St Joseph Girls Kitale in the top spot.

“It was a good start but we have to improve. We need  goals because being a round-robin tournament we need goals at the end to separate us from the rest. We go again on Monday,” said Nyamira coach Eliakim Obondo.

Kakunguku thrashed Namagunga also from Uganda 4-1 as Rift Valley champions St Joseph narrowly edged out Ugandan outfit Bweranyangi 1-0.

In the boy’s category, Kakungulu from Uganda hit Mangu High School 3-1 as St Anthony’s Boys Kitale were held to a 2-2 draw by Barara Boys from Uganda.

National champions Musingu edged out St Mary’s Chisubi 1-0.
