Over 100 golfers to grace Mombasa tourney

An estimated 140 golfers will be eyeing top honours at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Course on Saturday when the third circuit of the Kenya Ports Authority Corporate Golf Tournament tees off at 6.20am with the morning flight team of J. Molu, M. Walji, S. Mughal, and any other post entrant. The fourth and final circuit will be held on December 9 at Kakamega Sports Club.

The flight of Club Captain James Gitonga will be teeing off at 11.24 am alongside the Club Chairman Paul Munyao, their green keeper Tirus Githaiga and George Thama.

The last flight of the day at 1pm will be a four-ball team from the sponsors while juniors will this time play in one flight at 7.14 am starting with Ethan Kinuthia, Hawii Odoo, Nathan Ngweno and Fidelis Wasike.

Charles Odoo and Japheth Obonyo will be the staff players expected to shine with others among them being S.Samoe and Lady Golfer Terry Oddo as others were yet to join as post entrants.

Among the men golfers to watch are Evans Murumba, Dan Mugambi, Lawrence Odhiambo, Sammy Mulama, Martin Wahome and Gurbux Singh while ladies among them are Caroline Mokaya, Grace Kwamboka, Mary Mariga and Mary Kandu.

The prominent guest golfers vying for the title include the port’s former Managing Director Brown Ondego, Managing Director of James Finlay Wesley Bosuben and Logistic businessman Willy Rading.

Captain James Gitonga flanked by his green keeper Tirus Githaiga said they are honoured to host the event and that all preparations have been finalised to make the day successful.

Githaiga pointed out that the course is in pristine condition following the recent rains and playing well with pin positions placed in friendly positions for the golfers to enjoy the day.

“There will be lots of strong wind blowing from the nearby Indian Ocean but most of the golfers are greatly aware of the phenomenon and hope they will all play well, “said Githaiga.

KPA’s Managing Director Captain William Ruto will preside over the Mombasa event for the first time since being appointed in office and expected to use the occasion to inform stakeholders on the ongoing Port projects in Mombasa, Lamu,Shimoni,Kisumu and the Inland Container depots in Nairobi and Naivasha.

This KPA’s corporate event that has four circuits is rotational and comes to the Sea-Link course this time after being hosted at Nyali Course last year

This is the third circuit this year with others being the Central/North Rift ,Nairobi  Circuit and the Nyanza/Western where  the final  fourth circuit will be held  on December 9 at Kakamega Sports Club.
