Gitonga wins in Limuru Club as Chepkwony triumphs in Nandi

Limuru Country Club's Wambui Gitonga carded a round of 40 points on the thirteenth event of the 2022 NCBA Golf Series at her home club on Saturday to claim the win in Division One category.

Playing off handicap 18, Wambui's effort was enough to fend off the challenge by club captain Gitau Ngaruiya, who closed his round with 39 points, playing off handicap 13.

In the second division, Gitiria Kamau, playing off handicap 36, carded a round of 43 points to top the division ahead of Gachuno, playing off handicap 26, who ended his round with a haul of 37 points.

In the third division, Maria Maali, playing off handicap 40, carded a total of 38 points to seal the win ahead of James Kabiru, who managed 37 points playing off handicap 39.

In Nandi County, Wilson Chepkwony braved all odds around Nandi hills to emerge the overall winner of the 2022 CFAO Motors by Toyota Kenya tournament played at the nine-hole par 72 Nandi Bears Golf Club Course on Saturday.

Chepkwony survived on a count back score of 43 stableford points to take lead after returning the same score with Jacob Keino who was the runners up.

The daylong 18-hole stableford tournament attracted over 100 golfers from the home club, Kitale, Kakamega, Eldoret, Kisii and Nyanza.

The golfers all playing under perfect weather conditions and a well prepared course that made it conducive for a competitive round of golf, saw the newly handicapped golfer Emmy Suge win the lady's prize with 38 points.

Elvis Kiplimo was the junior's prize winner with 35 points while long hitting Ken Serem and Faith Chemutai won the men's and lady's longest drive contest.

At the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course on the same day, Caroline Munyi playing off handicap 30 topped in the lady golfers action to carry home the September 2022 Pendant Medal after carding 70 nett and also the Division B winner on the same score.

"Today has been good for me and am very happy for winning the Pendant that I hope to defend in future and I thank my playing partners for the great moments we shared at the course," Munyi said.

At Ruiru Sports Club, Julia Wangari playing off handicap 25 posted a count back score of 43 points to emerge the overall winner of the Detour golf tournament also played on Saturday.

He tied on the same score with handicap 11 Jessy Ndegwa who was the men winner while handicap 18 Benjamin Muchungi was the runners up on a point difference behind.

Jane Alice Mutuota playing off handicap 23 won the lady's Prize with 39 points and Alice Abere was second.
