Koinange wins charity tournament at Muthaiga

Susan Koinange claimed a sweet victory at the par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club course for a worthy cause on Friday.

Koinange playing off handicap 30, returned a commendable score of 43 stableford points to lift the overall title during a charity golf event in aid of Samburu Girls Rescue Centre based in Suguta, Samburu County.

The funds raised from the tournament will be used in running the centre which caters for over 700 young girls who have been rescued from early marriages. 

Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed was the chief guest of the event which was graced by various sponsors and partners led by Safaricom Limited, Muthaiga Golf Club, Rotary Club of Nairobi, Lea Client Services, IMG, Cube Movers and PKF. 

“The time when archaic traditions denied the girl child a chance to prosper in life is long gone and we must stand up for them by calling out the ills when we see them,” said Amina.

Clinching men's title on a score of 41 stableford points was Father Gerald Wanjara after edging out a fellow clergyman Father Dominic Muturi playing off handicap 22. Muturi posted a similar score of 41 stableford points on countback.

Bernice Ngi’nja playing off handicap 31 upon returning to the club house was the winner in the ladies' category with 39 stableford points as handicap 31 Julia Wangari carded a round total of 37 stableford points to finish second.

Elijah Adul won the First Nine Prize with 22 stableford points while Paul Kiboi claimed the second position with 22 stableford points too.

In the commercials, Emmanuel Wachira blasted his tee shot 246-yards on the par-5 18th hole to lift the Longest Drive Men prize as Railway’s Veronica Kona bagged the ladies award.

Edwin Kinus won the Nearest to Pin Men prize with Susan Koinange emerging victorious in the ladies category.

Youngster Kigen Koitaba playing off handicap 11 was the best Junior golfer during the meet on a score of 36 stableford points as Benson Ngugi playing off handicap 28 secured Best Effort prize after managing 10 stableford points from his round of 18.
