Uganda’s Akope wins Safari Tour Series fourth leg

Kenya’s Dismas Indiza and Simon Ngige put a brave fight in the final rounds, but lost the Safari Tour fourth leg title to Ugandan Deo Akope in the final day of the tournament at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County yesterday.

Akope , a home professional at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala and also the captain of Professional Golf  Association of Uganda completed the rounds with a total of a two under par 282 gross to emerge the overall winner and register his maiden victory in the Tour.

He started  day one on Sunday with 75 gross, and maintained a 68 gross in the second and third day before finally sealing the fate of Kenyans with a level par 71 gross yesterday to claim victory.

Akope who bagged Sh314,384 also becomes the first Ugandan to win in the Tour.

“The pins positions in the final day were tricky but I continued staying away from trouble to beat the course,” he said.
