Musingu School and Arch Bishop Njenga Girls are the 2023 Kakamega County Secondary School football champions.

Giant slayers Musingu saw off Shanderema 2-1 in an exciting boy’s final match played at a fully parked Bukhungu Stadium.

Musingu earlier sent warning shots after knocking out former national champions Green Commandoes of Kakamega High School 5-4 in penalties in the semifinals. On the other hand, Shanderema saw off Lugusi 4-2.

Speaking after the win, Musingu High School coach Brendan Mwinamo said he defeated stubborn Shanderema boys through counters.

The coach said Shanderema players are more muscular than his boys adding that he applied mind game.

"Our opponent were strong and I was forced to instruct my boys to use counter and ensure they score in the first half in order to destabilize them mentally, my boys were also faster in running and that's how we managed to hold them to the latter," he said.

"We are working on bringing the trophy back to Kakamega and the entire Western region, we are going to improve on our speed, mental fitness and physical fitness, my boys are tinny and as a coach you have to read the mind and the game of your opponent." Added.

Green Commandoes went further down after finishing fourth in the county finals. They lost 2-0 to Lugusi in the third place playoffs.

In football girls, Archbishop Njega Girls School won the championship after narrowly seeing off Butere Girls 1-0.
