Benjamin Nyangweso returned as head coach of Kenya Premier League side Ulinzi Stars in a change of guard that was effected on Tuesday by the club management.

Nyangweso replaces Stephen Ocholla, who has been in charge of the team since June last year.

Confirming the report, the soldiers said that Nyangweso resumed his duties after being away on military duties.

“The wise man from Kakamega County, Malava pale Lukume coach Benjamin Nyangweso is back and resumes his position as the head coach after being away on military duties. Karibu Nyumbani ‘coaches’, Ulinzi Stars is happy to have you back,” Nyangweso replaces Simiyu.

The gaffer served as an assistant coach at Ulinzi Stars before taking charge as head coach in 2017.

Nyangweso left the four-time Kenya Premier League champions Ulinzi Stars mid last year on deployment and the club elevated his assistant coach Stephen Ocholla to resume his duties.

He returned to Ulinzi Stars at a time when the club had picked just four wins in 14 matches. The side has drawn six times and have suffered four losses.

In 2019, Nyangweso came back to the club replacing Dustan Nyaudo, who spearheaded the team since the beginning of 2018.

Nyaudo had replaced Nyangweso following the latter posting dismal results at the 2017 premier league campaign.

He guided the team to a fourth-place finish in his first season in the top flight and the following year emerged second in the SPL coach of the year award behind winner Dylan Kerr of Gor Mahia.

His vast experience will be put to test when Ulinzi Stars’ will take on Wazito FC at ASK Showground Nakuru this Saturday before heading to Ruaraka Grounds to face Tusker FC on 12th February. The return leg will be on 16th February. Soldiers will be back in Nakuru to battle it out with KCB on 22nd February. ?
