Kenya’s Bunge FC made a dramatic comeback to hold on its archi-rival Uganda in their second match at the 11th edition of EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in Arusha Tanzania.

The Kenya legislators had conceded two goals to nil at end of the first half in a match dubbed Migingo derby at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.

The tide turned mid- way during the second half, as Kenyan side piled pressure on a defensive line of the Ugandan Parliament who remained solid.

Both teams gave as much as they got before Kenya legislators turned tables to end the match to 3-3.

EALA mooted the idea of the Inter-Parliamentary Games tournament in the Year 2009.

The Games was officially opened by Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa under this year’s theme, “Strengthening Integration through inter-Parliamentary Games in the Covid-19 era.”

This will see 1,500 legislators drawn from Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar compete in different disciplines which include Football, Netball, Athletics, Tug-of-War, Volleyball, Walk race, Golf, Basketball and Darts.

On Tuesday, Kenya Bunge FC collected three points after thumping EALA. A solitary goal by Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen goal through a penalty kick was the only one needed to earn the team three points.

The referee awarded Parliament of Kenya a penalty after a defender held on to the ball in the box. Hon. Murkomen scored the resultant kick to give his team the lead.

Murkomen who also doubles as the captain lauded the technical bench and his teammate for the exemplary display of a great show of discipline and commitment.

In the first basketball match of the day at the Institute of Accountancy Tanzania beat Kenya 48-10.

Bunge Tanzania overcame EALA in ladies volleyball match 3-1 of 24-16, 25-14, 21-25 and 25-10.

In netball, Burundi defeated National Assembly of Kenya with a slim margin 32-31 while in volleyball men, Uganda overcame Zanzibar by three sets to one of 16-25, 23-25 and 20-25.

It was a tight affair in volleyball as Kenya held on Uganda 1-1 in the three sets.

The team is currently taking part in the ongoing 11th edition of EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in Arusha, Tanzania.

The annual games that rotate from East African Community (EAC) member countries started on December 5th to 17th this year in Arusha.

Kenya is represented by a squad consisting of seasoned former international sportsman and Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, who is the Volleyball captain, while the Golf team is being led by Kieni MP Kanini Kega.

Luanda MP Christopher Omulele is the captain for the tug of war squad while Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka is in charge of the athletics team.

The IPG is expected to last 14 days with competitions lined up for football, netball, athletics, tug-of-war, volleyball, walking race, golf, basketball and darts.

“We have come here to claim our position in East Africa and we are going to win all the games as we did in 2019,” said Kenyan lawmaker Dan Wanyama.

The next match of the day will see Tanzania square it out with brother team Zanzibar.
