Red-hot Kariobangi Sharks striker Erick Kapaito will be hoping to help his side keep their FKF Premier League title hopes alive when they clash with second placed KCB at Thika Stadium today.

The early kick off fixture (1pm) will be followed by another equally highly anticipated match between relegation threatened Mathare United and Wazito at the same grounds.

But the leading goal scorer (22 goals) said he is focused on helping Sharks winning the remaining matches with his goldenboot ambitions coming as a bonus.

Milestone

This is despite being six goals shy of Charles Odero’s (Scarlet FC) feat (28 goals) he achieved in the 1983 season.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Kapaito who previously featured four National Super League side FC Talanta, said they are determined and ready for the bankers match.

Despite, surpassing his earlier target of scoring more than 16 goals in 2018 that earned him the goldenboot award, the Kenyan international believes putting the team’s targets first will be healthy both for the club and his growth as a player.

“I have no personal targets right now. My focus is to help the team win all their remaining matches until the end of the season,” said Kapaito.

Sharks are currently third in the standings with 44 points, seven points behind KCB and a win over the bankers will see them close the gap on leaders Tusker who are on 55 points.

“We still have six more matches to go and in football anything is possible. We just have to keep winning and see what happens at the end of the season,” added Kapaito who scored in their 2-1 win over record champions Gor Mahia in their last match.

In Nakuru, the ASK Showground will host another double header with Western Stima and Vihiga United battling out in a relegation zone encounter before wounded AFC Leopards look to end their two match losing streak when they face Nzoia Sugar in the second tie at the same venue.

Sofapaka and Kakamega Homeboyz will both be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they play at Wundanyi Stadium as Bandari host Posta Rangers in Mombasa.

Tomorrow, defending champions Gor Mahia will travel Nakuru to play Ulinzi Stars as Nairobi City Stars welcome Bidco United at Ruaraka Grounds.
