KCB missed the chance to narrow the gap on FKF Premier League leaders Tusker after being frustrated to a 1-1 draw by Wazito at Thika Stadium on Saturday.
Michael Owino had given Francis Kimanzi’s men a first half lead in the 33rd minute only for David Owino to score a last gasp penalty kick to secure a vital point for the bankers as the race for the title continues to intensify.
The result saw the second placed KCB, who still have a game in hand, take their points tally to 48, six behind Tusker who beat AFC Leopards 2-0 on Friday. Wazito remain eighth on the log with 35 points.
Just like KCB, Gor Mahia labored to a 1-1 draw with Nairobi City Stars at Ruaraka Grounds. And it is Jules Ulimwengu who saved the record Kenyan champions’ blushes with a second half equaliser.
City Stars had taken the lead through Kevin Okumu’s 22nd minute strike.
In a second match in Thika, golden boot hopeful Eric Kapaito scored a brace as Kariobangi Sharks thrashed relegation threatened Vihiga United 4-0.
The double saw Kapaito take his goals tally to 21, seven ahead of his closest challenger Elvis Rupia (AFC Leopards).
Kapaito now joins former Tusker forward Jesse Were, Kakamega Homeboyz’s Allan Wanga and former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani as the only players to have surpassed the 20-goal mark in the domestic league.
James Mazembe and Peter Lwasa also got on the scoresheet as resurgent Sharks moved to fourth in the standings with 41 points.
Vihiga are still 16th on the log with 16 points, two points above bottom placed Mathare United.
In Nakuru, Kakamega Homeboyz stretched their unbeaten run to five games after narrowly beating Nzoia Sugar 2-1 at ASK Showground.
Homeboyz broke the deadlock through Shami Kibwana’s effort on the stroke of halftime before Alex Opoku doubled in the 77th minute.
Gabriel Wandera pulled a goal back for the millers from the spot in the injury time.
In Wundanyi, Benard Ondiek’s second half goal cancelled out Titus Aches’ opener as Posta Rangers shared the spoils with 10-man Sofapaka (1-1). Sammy Mukwana was shown a red card in the 72nd minute.
In the second match in Nakuru, Masita Masuta and Mark Bikobwa inspired Ulinzi Stars to a 2-1 comeback win over Western Stima.
