Daniel Ek has confirmed that he made a bid to buy Arsenal only to see it knocked back.

Reports surfaced suggesting that the Swedish billionaire had backed out of his attempts to purchase the Gunners.

Ek has since released a statement insisting they were untrue as the Spotify CEO again signalled his desire to get involved with the club whom he supports.

He had the backing of several club legends including Thierry Henry but has confirmed that the Kroenkes have rejected his offer.

Ek said on Twitter: "Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal Football Club.

"I think it's important to correct the record - this week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for the supporters.

"They replied that they don't need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change."

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, whose son Josh is part of the club's board, has faced calls to sell as fans protest outside the Emirates.

The American businessman has long endured a difficult relationship with supporters due to his stand-off approach.

Henry was one of several Arsenal 'Invincibles' who backed Ek's proposal and he recently said on Sky Sports: "It is true. Daniel is an Arsenal fan, he didn't say it for any publicity. He is an Arsenal fan for a very long time.

"He already - I'll give you something - reached out [to the Kroenkes] and already said himself that he had collected the funds to make sure that he can put in a good bid.

"They now need to listen. A lot of people have been screaming that they want the owner out. We are trying to offer a solution involving the fans and getting the DNA of the club back."
