Klopp reveals reason behind Alisson's blunders in Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Man City

Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson may have made his uncharacteristic errors against Manchester City due to having "cold feet".

The Brazilian committed two major distribution blunders in the space of four minutes to set City on the path to a resounding 4-1 victory at Anfield.

First, Alisson scuffed two clearances in quick succession, allowing City to break into the final third and Ilkay Gundogan to score his second to put the visitors 2-1 up.

Minutes later, the shot-stopper passed the ball straight to Bernardo Silva on the byline, giving the attacker the simple task of crossing to Raheem Sterling at the back post to add City's third.

Klopp was bewildered by the mistakes made by his No.1 - who is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world - but claims he may have been feeling the effects of the cold Merseyside air.

"We cannot hide that now so we have to turn around and say 'well it was done'," Klopp told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.

"It is true as well we did not give him a lot of options, especially the first one. I think the second one, yeah, he just mishit the ball.

"I don't know, I don't have a real explanation for it, maybe he had cold feet or something. It sounds funny but it could be. He had the opportunity to kick it in the stands.

"But, again, Ali has saved our lives plenty of times, no doubt about that. Tonight he made mistakes but that's how it is."

Alisson has been a vital component in Liverpool's successful side in recent years and has picked up Champions League and Premier League winners' medals since joining from Roma in 2018 for £69million - then a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.
