Positive transfer update on Victor Wanyama, destination revealed

Jose Mourinho apologises to Eric Dier after substituting him

Jose Mourinho on Tuesday publicly apologised to Eric Dier for subbing the midfielder just 29 minutes into Tottenham’s Champions League victory over Olympiacos.

The new Tottenham boss substituted the English man when his side slide to a 2-0 deficit and replaced him with Cristian Eriksen.

The decision worked for the Portuguese as Spurs sparked an impressive second half comeback to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

UK-based sports news outlet hitc.com reported that Dier has not excelled under Mourinho since the arrival of the Portuguese and, therefore Mourinho will look to use another defensive midfielder.

And Wanyama is the obvious choice the former Manchester United boss.

Hitherto, if Dier hit the ground running under Mourinho then Wanyama would be sold in January.

Victor Wanyama is poised to leave Spurs in January

This is after Celtic manager Neil Lennon confirmed to Daily Record that he is interested in Victor Wanyama after the 28-year-old fell down the pecking order at the current club Tottenham.

"(We're looking) for a player like Wanyama, it's about availability,’’ he said.

"They (Tottenham) have had a change of manager, then there's affordability.

"Would I like Wanyama in the building? Of course.

"But it may not be an area we are looking to add to because of the way the midfield is functioning.

"We are looking at the forward area that may be the one area we are looking strengthen."

Spurs midfielder Wanyama has made just three appearances this season for the London club after falling out the picture.

And with Mourinho coming in as Spurs manager, Wanyama’s luck has not changed with the Harambee captain not featuring in the match day squad for Tottenham’s win over West Ham at the weekend and also their Champions League victory over Olympiacos.
