Emerging Eastern Region sports powerhouse Mbooni Boys will be looking to make a memorable debut at the 2019 secondary schools national Term Two games that begin tomorrow in Kisumu.

They are inspired by their handball team that finished second at this year’s Term One games and qualified for next month’s East Africa games set for Arusha, Tanzania.

Mbooni coach Dominic Maingi said his charges are eager to emulate their handball team.

“We are not only inspired but challenged too because the handball team set high standards and have shown the way and proved that it can be done,” said Maingi.

With many of last year’s teams having failed to return to the national scene, Mbooni will have a chance to prove their worth and be crowned new champions.

Last year’s winners Kakamega High were eliminated at the County level and relinquished their titles. Mbooni face an uphill task in a tough group B.

They will be up against Kisumu Day, Nairobi’s Dagoretti High and Ebwali from Western.

Their first test will be against Dagoretti, who finished fourth last year.

Mbooni will bank on strikers Danny Oroto and Peter Loishorua to beat the opponents defence and score goals while Joshua Nzangili and Edwin Kevolwe will marshal the midfield.

Bramwel Ojiambo and Antony Kyalo will be tasked with ensuring that their opponents that breach their territory shielding goalkeepers Jumaa Rumba and Patrick Musembi.
