Real Madrid will make a renewed bid to make Mauricio Pochettino their new manager.

The Spanish giants have got Pochettino back on their wish list after sacking Julen Lopetegui and a move for ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte fell through.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a huge admirer of Pochettino but knows they will face a massive battle to get the Spurs boss, especially mid-season.

That, however, is unlikely to dissuade Real Madrid from making an approach, although Pochettino has been at pains to stress he is happy at Tottenham despite also voicing frustrations amid the club’s stadium fiasco.

Pochettino also signed a new deal last summer and has already insisted he will lead the club into the new White Hart Lane.

Conte seemed destined to take charge but he had a change of heart after player power intervened to stop him getting the control of team affairs that he wanted before committing himself to Real Madrid.

Santiago Solari, who is already on the coaching staff, has been put in temporary charge until they make a permanent appointment following the humiliation of losing 5-1 to Barcelona in El Clasico.

Juventus boss Max Allegri, Joachim Low and Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann have all been linked with the job.
