Manchester City are spraying their home pitch, Etihad with garlic to stop parasites attacking it.
According to The Sun, litres of liquid were reportedly sprayed over the pristine surface by ground staff following Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
Garlic can be used to clear out the parasites that can infiltrate the ground and munch roots, leading to poor and damaged growth.
The strong-smelling member of the onion family is sprayed as a way of fumigating soil and compounds in it kill parasites.
Garlic contains allicin, which has been shown to get rid of parasites in both test tubes and animal studies. The medical properties in garlic are found in raw diced, sliced or crushed pieces.
The preventive measure is also used on pitches at the club’s Football Academy and is something that has been going on for a couple of years.
