Juan Mata says Manchester United didn't deserve loss

Juan Mata: Manchester United need to move on from '
undeserved' Swansea defeat

Juan Mata has urged his Manchester United teammates to move on from Sunday's undeserved defeat at the hands of Swansea, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The Reds led for little over a minute in Wales after Ander Herrera's first-half opener was immediately cancelled out by Ki Sung-Yeung, before Bafetimbi Gomis inadvertently netted the winner for the hosts in the second period.

It was an unlucky defeat for United according to Mata, who put it down to the unpredictable nature of football.

"We played almost all the time in Swansea’s half of the pitch, but we weren’t able to take any chance and we all know that football can be capricious," he wrote.

"We were ahead after a great goal from Ander in the first half, but were defeated later on with a lucky goal from Gomis after Shelvey’s shot.

"Sometimes you win games that you don’t deserve to win, and some other times, and I think this is the case, you just don’t get what you deserve… This is football!"

Defeat for United heightened the race for the top four, with five points now separating five teams between third and seventh place. The Reds are still in a good position, but Mata knows they need to improve.

"As I keep saying every week, and now even more, it is vital to win games. Our main rivals don’t slow down and the race for the Champions League spots is closer than ever.

"We are approaching the most important moment of the season and we must deliver in order to get our goals."
