History written as AFC Leopards break Chemelil Sugar jinx Iin Gotv Shield Cup on Saturday

By Game Yetu

It was songs and dance as the AFC fans thronged the streets of Nakuru town to celebrate Leopards 1-0 win over bogey team Chemelil Sugar in a Gotv Shield Cup on Saturday. The celebration was not just for the last eight qualification, but because the over a decade Millers jinx had been broken in style by an angry leopard. Once again, veteran midfielder Charles Okwemba, who has rescued AFC in most crucial matches, rose to the occasion to head home the match winner in the 74th minute after a well

Executed curved free-kick by Abdalla Juma. The boys played as a team and showed intent from the word go and that’s why we deserved to win. What a positive result to welcome our new coach James Nandwa and bring the smiles back in the den.

Now let’s remain focused, win the remaining seven league matches and see what happens next.

Coaching is not the problem in the den

It has come to the attention of Ingwe fans that certain National Executive Committee members are consistently frustrating and sabotaging the efforts of every appointed coach in the den. Former Leopards coaches Jan Koops and Tom Olaba frequently complained about the interference from the Executive. And just like his predecessors, the recently fi red Luc Eymael blamed two NEC members for frustrating him and making his work harder. He was even seconded by his former deputy Nicholas Muyoti.

Let’s call a spade a spade, identify the real problem in the den and stop hiring and fi ring coaches after a short spell. Apparently, the problem is not related to coaching but some few NEC officials with vested interests.

Eymael goes South African

Immediate-former AFC coach Luc Eymael could be on his way to a South African top tier side, just a few days after being sacked by Ingwe. Eymael was dismissed last week after a series of poor results with a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Chemelil Sugar bringing his stay in Kenya to an end. Reports indicate that the Belgian, who left the country on Friday September 20, has received an offer from a Premier Soccer League side. Although, Eymael blamed some officials for sabotaging him, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that his heart was somewhere else.
