KENYA: Gor Mahia have named a strong squad for this year’s Champions League.

The club has included all their new signings in the 26-man squad that begins their campaign on the weekend of February 7 and 8 against US Bitam of Gabon in Nairobi.

Former striker George Odhiambo and midfielder Rama Salim, who are both returning to the club, have been included in the team that has Ugandan new signings Godfrey Walusimbi and Godfrey Kizito.

International midfielder Patrick Oboya, who is fighting to regain full fitness, is also in the continental squad.

Elsewhere, Eric Adede who is contesting for the chairman’s position has said that writing a new constitution for Gor Mahia remains his top priority.

New club elections are scheduled for this Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium after the previous exercise was cancelled due to crowd trouble when supporters of different parties clashed over the modality of the process.

Adede said the current Gor Mahia constitution is outdated and does not take into consideration the changed landscape of running a modern club.

“One of the things we need to change is to have a constitution that spells out the duties of various office bearers. As it is now, everything has been left to the chairman and when there is a challenge, all we see are blame games,” he said in an interview.

Adede further said he wants to help Gor Mahia invest in assets and also increase its revenue base.

“It is unfortunate that the club has no meaningful investments to talk about despite being in the business for such a long time. For this to happen, we need visionary leadership and this is what I am offering for the club,” he said.

He also promised to increase revenue through gate collections and sale of merchandise.
