Nairobi City County (NCC) and Mathare 4N tied 2-2 to win the Nairobi Intermediate Anthony Waithaka Boxing Ring championship at Jericho Social Hall on Saturday.

NCC and Mathare 4 N each claimed two victories to emerge as winners in a tournament organised by the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) and sponsored by businessman Anthony Waithaka aka Anto.

Jericho, Thailand, Kibera, Umoja, Bahati, Mukuru, Mbotela and Githurai 44 came joint second after each team claimed one win in the finals.

Embakasi, Kayole, Sosman, WCC, Lumumba and Ngando left the tournament empty handed with no winner in any of the bouts.

The tournament was used to unveil a new and modern boxing ring at Jericho Social Hall that has been set up by Anthony Waithaka. The facility is free for use by Makadara constituency residents, boxers and boxing clubs.

"I have been supporting sports for many years and I know that the biggest huddle for any boxer or boxing club is a boxing ring. Sports is the largest employer of the youth today,” said Waithaka.

According to the organisers, non-Makadara residents intending to use the facility will be charged a fee which will be then be used for the ring’s maintenance and promote boxing in the constituency.   [Standard Sports]
