Relegation-threatened Lakeside will be hoping to register their second win of the 2022 Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League season when they host African Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks at Magadi Primary School in Kisumu on Saturday.
Lakeside are bottom of the 12-team league with 12 points after winning only one match of the 11 they have played and must win against ANU Wolfpacks if they are to stand a chance of avoiding the chop.
"We still have a chance to survive and I believe if we win all our home matches then we will stand a chance to avoid the drop."
"All we need is to defend well and finish our offensive plays because missing shots has cost us easy games previously and that must change starting with Wolfpacks game," said Lakeside captain Sila Awuor.
On the other hand, Lady Bucks is also staring at relegation from the women's topflight league after registering their 10th defeat of the 2022 season last weekend.
Lady Bucks who have won only one match of the 11 players started their second leg on the wrong foot after being hammered 63-26 by Strathmore University Swords last Saturday.
The results for the visitors went from bad to worse on Sunday when former champions Equity Bank Hawks demolished them 96-37.
The two defeats left Lady Bucks second from bottom with 11 points having played two more games than bottom-placed Kenyatta University Oryx.
Speaking ahead of their match against ANU Panthers, coach Dave Michaels said they are positive they can start the journey towards avoiding the drop with a win against the visitors.
'It has been tough especially if you take into account our financial challenges and training ground unavailability. Training has been tough now that the Sportsgrounds which is our home ground is closed but we are fighters."
"Results have been tough to get but we are home now and all we need is to believe we can win. We just need to play more offensively and defend aggressively," said Michaels.
In Mombasa, defending champions KPA men who have been away for the Basketball Africa League will be hoping to reclaim their lost lead in the standings when they host Kenyatta University (KU) Pirates.
KPA have dropped to third on the log with 19 points same as Nairobi City Thunder with former champions Ulinzi Warriors and Equity Dumas currently at the top with 20 points each.
Their female counterparts who top the women's league with 20 points will on the other hand-eye a record 11 consecutive wins when they play KU Oryx.
