Reigning Nairobi Region secondary schools boys and girls basketball champions Dagoretti High and Buruburu reigned supreme at the weekend in their Sub-County games.

Dagorreti thrashed rivals Lenana School 67-20 while Buruburu whitewashed Our Lady of Mercy South B 98-20 to retain the Dagoretti and Makadara Sub County titles respectively.

Dagoretti and Buruburu will be looking to successfully defend their regional titles and qualify for next month’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association national games in Mombasa.

Buruburu oozed class from the onset with the experienced trio of Chantal Kiyobe, Claris Osula and Maureen Nyanyanyi calling shots in the one-sided final played on their home turf.

Osula top scored for the two-time national winners with 29 points while Kiyobe and Nyanyanyi sunk 22 and 21 points.

Buruburu won the match in the first quarter after taking a comfortable 28-5 lead.

The game was done and dusted in the second quarter as Buruburu scored 27 points against Our Lady’s eight to secure victory with a 55-13 as the latter resigned to their fate.

Buruburu led the final two quarters 15-5 and 28-2 to retain the title.

It was not easy for Highway, however, in the boys’ final as rivals Aquinas gave them a run for their money.

They laboured to bag a narrow 46-43 win against unrelenting Aquinas, who were not ready to go down without a fight.

In Kibra, former national champions Upper Hill retained their title with a 109-12 victory over Shadrack Kimalel School. They also defeated St Nicholas 78-0 in another tie.

Upper Hill, who missed last year’s national games after losing 51-58 to Dagoretti High, are seeking recapture the Nairobi trophy.

Upper Hill coach Ronald Omangi said his charges are ready for the task.
