Hunger rampant in Gaza as Israel-Hamas fighting intensifies

As humanitarians warned Thursday that more than a half-million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were coping with catastrophic levels of hunger, the U.N. Security Council again delayed a vote authorizing scaled-up aid to them.

A council vote on the text drafted by the United Arab Emirates has been repeatedly delayed since Monday because of objections from the United States over some language the U.S. could not support. A revised draft Thursday showed changes, including dropping a call for "the urgent suspension of hostilities" to allow in aid.
