The third edition of Kirdam 10km race, set for August 15, has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Isaiah Cherutich, the chairman of the organising committee, said it was unfortunate that the race has been pushed to next year.

"We expected a huge turnout this year. It has been growing steadily. We hope we will emerge out of the crisis soon," he said.

He said they had a big field last year. "In last year's event, we raised raise Sh3 million which we used to buy water tanks for schools in the area. This year, we are targeting to raise Sh10 million.

Winners of the race received Sh150,000 and the prize money trickled down to 10th position,” said Cherutich.

"We take this opportunity to apologise for any inconveniences this cancellation has caused, especially to athletes and sports enthusiasts who had prepared for the race.

The prevailing pandemic is unprecedented and beyond our control. "We urge athletes to continue training in preparation for the resumption of sporting activities," he added.
