Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly weighing up a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Solskjaer had been keen on Erling Haaland but missed out on the teenager to Borussia Dortmund this week.

United insisted they pulled out of a deal for the Norwegian over the way it was structured but Haaland's agent Mino Raiola insists he simply opted for Dortmund instead.

A striker remains a priority for Solskjaer going into the January transfer window and Calvert-Lewin has emerged as an alternative.

The Sun reports the Everton man was on United's radar as a back-up to Haaland but could now move to first choice.

The 22-year-old would reportedly cost around £50m, having joined Everton for just £1.5m in 2016.

He is in arguably the best form of his Goodison Park career, scoring all three goals under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Calvert-Lewin scored twice against Chelsea earlier this month and followed that up with the winner over Burnley on Boxing Day.

The striker then found the net twice at Newcastle on Saturday with Ancelotti lauding his performances.

“He is a fantastic striker in my opinion – fantastic with the head, clever in the box, and sharp.

“But he’s young and for this reason he has to improve. He is a humble guy and he doesn’t talk a lot.

“I think he is going to be at the top in England and in Europe. He has all the qualities to be a top striker.”

United are keen to continue their strategy of signing young British talents after the acquisitions of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last summer.
